ISO is the sensitivity to light. When the ISO is low, the photo will be darker. When the ISO is high, the photo will be lighter. An effect of having high ISO is a lower quality image and noise (also known as grain). ISO is usually the last aspect of the exposure triangle to be adjusted, because by adjusting your aperture and shutter speed you can make your photo brighter without the grain of a high ISO.
